Full disclosure, for the first few posts of this new series, I won’t be using a sketchbook, which is really funny to me because in the past, I viewed artists who sketched on loose pieces of paper as being maniacs but now I am one of those so-called maniacs. The reason behind this is simply that I wanted to start this project using materials I already had instead of going out and buying new ones. I didn’t have a large multimedia sketchbook, so I’m using my OG Canson 9×12″ watercolor pad.
In my last post, I wrote about how I really wanted to document my Europe trip but wasn’t sure how I was going to do so until I came across this Skillshare Class. I know, I know I’m talking about Skillshare again, but honestly, I can’t get enough of it because it is so inspiring.
For this sketchbook spread, I decided to use the “roadmap” layout from Samantha Dion Baker’s Draw Your Day with Watercolor & Pen class to document my weekend in London. The first spread is definitely my favorite. I never thought that I would enjoy drawing buildings so much but the greenhouse is honestly one of my favorite things that I’ve made in a long time! It’s so nice having an illustrated telling of my trip and because I did these after I came back, it was like reliving the experience all over again.
Until next time,
